Chapter Backround
We are Chapter #243 of Northern Indiana. Our Chapter is a fully licensed charter of the "Star Touring & Riding Association."
Our Chapter was chartered in August of 2002.

Ladies of the STAR (L.O.S.) is a specialty part of Star Touring and Riding. Contrary to many motorcycle groups, we welcome
and encourage women to participate in all aspects of Star. Women are not required to own a motorcycle, only that you love
the sport. LOS is the fastest growing women's motorcycling organization in the US. Our promotion of a positive image of women
riders is encouraging more women to become an active part of a sport traditionally dominated by men. We have more female National
Officers and Chapter Presidents than any other mixed motorcycle group.
LOS members enjoy their own web site section, LOS section in StarNews, separate events at StarDays, and an opportunity
to exchange ideas and experiences with other female motorcycle enthusiasts

In 2001 Star Touring and Riding formed STAR VETS. As one of the fastest growing segments of the organization, STAR VETS
honors and commemorates the sacrifices of the men and women who have served or are currently serving our country. It's a way
of saying "We Will Never Forget." This segment of Star Touring proudly displays their service insignia, and places all veterans
in special honor, no matter what motorcycle they ride. As a part of our new five inch patch system, we now offer subpatches
for the MOS, Rank, Unit and Theater of Operation.

Meetings
The Chapter holds monthly dinner/meetings on the third Saturday or Sunday of
each month and are usually held at Bennigan's Restraunt in Elkhart. The Chapter holds at least one ride each month.
The rides are usually 4 to 5 hours in length. Each ride has been pre-ridden by chapter representatives. This entails
route planning, meal, fuel and destination stops. Other rides of longer duration will have their time, date and details announced
at the Chapter meetings
We take great pride in our Chapter's safety record. All rides are structured around safe riding practices and continued
rider education and are non-alcoholic.

Over one hundred years ago, small towns on the American frontier learned that there was one person they could turn to
for help in an emergency - the local sheriff. The frontier sheriff was a combination police officer, paramedic and emergency
coordinator. When anything happened that required special skills, he was known to all by his distinctive "Tin Star" badge.
Star Touring members, like the citizens of the frontier towns, at times need special assistance from people trained as
a police officer, physician, nurse, fire fighter, paramedic, EMT or Search and Rescue. If an accident or emergency situation
occurs the Tin Star can lend a hand or take control until local authorities arrive.
To help identify which of our members have this special training, and have volunteered to be of assistance, we have developed
a special pin, the "Tin Star". This pin is 1 3/4" high and has a double screw back so you can't loose it.
If you are certified in any of the above you may qualify as a "Tin Star", you must provide Star Touring with a copy of
your credentials.
